ABOUT ME

IMG_8884.JPG

Hey there! I’m Jonathan Molina, a proud senior at the University of South Carolina, majoring in Psychology with a minor in Air Force ROTC. In May 2025, I will be commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force—a moment that will mark the fusion of two lifelong passions: serving my country and understanding the human mind.

Growing up in Blythewood, SC, my mom and grandma would joke that I was the family therapist, always eager to listen and help. This early curiosity sparked my love for psychology, but in high school, I also developed a desire to serve in the military. Initially, I thought I had to choose, but discovering the Air Force's psychology career paths showed me I could do both—serve my country and pursue my dream of becoming a Clinical Psychologist, with the added support of graduate education. It felt like the perfect fit.

My Graduation with Leadership Distinction in Research reflects the incredible opportunities I have had to contribute to three impactful studies. The Dietary Guidelines: 3 Diets Study explored diet's effect on Type 2 diabetes risk in African American adults. The Bilingual Reading Difficulty Project worked to improve early reading difficulty identification in bilingual learners. Finally, my work with USC’s School Behavioral and Health Team focused on best practices for school behavioral health services. Each project challenged me, deepened my understanding of research, and reinforced my passion for making a difference. I'm grateful for the mentorship and growth these experiences offered.

Beyond academics, my time at USC has been shaped by leadership and service. As Cadet Wing Commander of my Air Force ROTC Detachment, I gained invaluable leadership experience. I've also connected with diverse communities, from attending Latin American Student Organization meetings to volunteering with the Multicultural Outreach Student Team, where I worked to inspire minority students. Whether interpreting for Spanish-speaking families at Good Samaritan Health Clinic or providing hearing screenings for special education children, these experiences have deepened my commitment to leadership and advocacy.

My portfolio highlights three key insights: Researcher’s Code, Supporting Success in Schools, and Turning Setbacks Into Strengths. Each lesson has shaped me into a more confident researcher, leader, and person. I also address challenges in the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) in education.

I’m excited to share my journey and look forward to hearing your thoughts!
